University Grants Commission – National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) June 2019 results were declared by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on Saturday, July 13, 2019 . Around 51,000 candidates have qualified for eligibility for assistant professors, while 4,756 of them have qualified for the Junior Research Fellowships. Qualification list for economically weaker section category has been announced for the first time. Success rate is higher in case of males though more number of females took the exams.
Compared to December 2018 test, while the number of candidates registered have decreased by around 14,000, the number of candidates qualified for assistant professorship has increased by over 10,000. The number of candidates qualified for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and/ or assistant professor has also increased from 3,946 to 4,756.
A total of 3,87,563 female candidate took the test, which is 93,419 more than boys, however the number of female candidates to clear the test is 23485 as against male qualifiers of 27460 for assistant professor.
The examination was conducted in 81 subjects across 615 examination centres between June 20 and 26, 2019 in 10 shifts. This time also the examination was conducted in computer based test mode and in order to make the system transparent, the question paper and recorded responses were displayed for the verification by examinees.
The subject for which the largest number of candidates registered is commerce (1,11,667), followed by English (74,770) and Hindi (71,140). The other subjects which have more than 50,000 candidates are political science, history, education, and computer science and applications.
Post the notification of reserving 10% quota for the EWS among the general category, this is the first time a separate merit list has been prepared for this category. A total of 6,848 EWS candidates have qualified for assistant professor, while another 648 have qualified the JRF.
