AICTE refuses approval to new engineering colleges, review report after every 2 academic sessions

AICTE refuses approval to new engineering colleges, review report after every 2 academic sessions

January 19, 2019

The All Indian Council for Technical Education(AICTE) has given a verdict regarding the existing institutions and the upcoming ones. As per AICTE, there won’t be any new engineering colleges from the academic session 2020-2021. AICTE has even declared that it would review the new creation capacity after every two academic years.

Anil Sahasrabuddhe, AICTE Chairman said that the All Indian Council for Technical Education has made this decision after considering the government committee recommendations of IIT-Hyderabad, which is headed by BVR Mohan Reddy. BVR Mohan Reddy had advised this as more than half of the total engineering seats were falling vacant every other year.

Another declaration by AICTE includes that only the requests from the existing engineering colleges/institutes to either convert current capacity in traditional engineering disciplines to emerging new technologies or to start a new technology programme will be entertained from the upcoming year.

A 41-page report was submitted to AICTE, which also suggested that there should be no additional seats in the engineering specialization areas such as mechanical, civil, electrical and electronics. AICTE informed that the total engineering seats in the Bachelor of Technology(B.Tech) & Master of Technology(M.Tech) has dropped sharply in the last academic session. All the existing Institutes were advised to convert current capacity in traditional disciplines to emerging new technologies.
