BHUBANESWAR: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is contemplating to conduct all its examinations online, said chairman of the commission Arvind Saxena here on Monday.
"The main objective of making the examinations online is to reduce the stress among students and the whole process candidate-friendly. The number of candidates appearing competitive examinations is increasing every day so there are some challenges in evaluation and value addition in the paper-based exams. We want to make things more transparent,"said Saxena. He was here to attend a two-day meet of all state public services commissions.
The state public service commissions discussed on various issues regarding the smooth conduct of the examination and on a standard operating procedure for all.
"We discussed on technical, legal and statutory aspects of the examinations and how to make it candidate friendly and work on developing a model guideline. By making the exam online the candidates would be able to see the answer sheets, if they have any doubt," said chairman of Odisha Public Services Commission, Brigadier (Retd) Laxmi Charan Patnaik.
The commission members also discussed on digital evaluation of papers and the impacts of the shift from 'pen and paper' method to online, he added.
UPSC conducts different competitive examinations for government jobs including the coveted civil services exam while the state commissions conduct state-level civil services examinations. Governor of Odisha Ganeshi Lal was the chief guest in the inaugural session of the conference.
