Around 1.3 lakh applications were recieved by Tamilnadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) committee on thursday compared to 1.41 lakh applications received last year.Online engineering counselling for more than 1.7 lakh government quota seats in 500 colleges will be conducted by Directorate of Technical Education(DOTE).The registration for the same that began on May 2 will end on Friday.
“We have received 2,500 applications on Thursday and expect more on the last day,” officials told TOI. “Though the engineering colleges witness a slight increase in campus placements this year, the interest to join engineering coursescontinue to decline,” professors said.
The top colleges could not fill management quota seats except for computer science and IT branches. The candidates would be assigned random numbers on June 3. The certificate verification will take place from June 6 to June 11 at 42 designated TNEA facilitation centres (TFCs).
“A day has been divided into seven sessions and candidates should carry all their original certificates to verification centres,” said an official. Chennai will have two TFCs at the Central Polytechnic in Taramani and one each in Anna Centenary Library and Science City.
The rank list will be released on June 17.
“We have decided to conduct the counselling with an in-house software developed with the help of experts and professors. We would hire consultants if needed,” sources said. The counselling will be held from July 3 to June 28. For the last 22 years, Anna University conducted the counselling.
After university vice-chancellor M K Surappa resigned from the TNEA committee over reconstitution of the panel, the government designated DOTE to conduct the counselling this year.
