The constitutional colleges of Allahabad University would be able to take admission under the PhD programme from the next academic session (2019-20). This would be possible after the Executive Committee (EC) of AU would be endorsing the new framework of rules under which the doctoral programme would be conducted on the main campus of AU and the constitutional colleges.
Earlier, large number of students, who had appeared in combined research entrance test (CRET) at AU but were unable to get admission in research at AU owing to merit position, were hoping that they would be getting admission at any of the degree college.
However, the meeting of the Academic Council (AC), the body which decides the academic issues on the campus, decided that as there would be new set of rules and framework for governing the research admission on the campus and constituent colleges, the degree colleges would be taking admission in PhD from the coming academic session only.
“For taking admission in PhD, the number of seats are specified well in advance and since at the time of conducting CRET 2018, there were seats only at AU, the degree colleges cannot take admission on the basis of that entrance test”, said one of the senior member of AC. He added, now the new rules would be approved by the EC and hence, the colleges can participate in the research admission from 2019-20 session.
Since colleges would also be conducting research, the ordinance of AU, governing this section, would have to be rectified including sections like functioning of doctoral programme committee, advisory committee, role of supervisor, financial burden etc.
“The new set of rules and the main framework is already completed and the AC suggested some changes and the same would be made prior to the meeting of EC, scheduled for March 8 and the same is likely to be approved by the same”, said, a member of the AC associated with framing the rules.
