May 15, 2019

UGC, AICTE, India’s higher education regulators advices students not to take admission in pok institutions citing institutions in PoK are neither established, run nor have the approval of the Indian state. This announcement came after two dozen students from J&K were exploring the possibility of taking admission in PoK institutions.

"Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (POJK)is an integral part of India. The educational institutions including universities, medical colleges, and technical institutions situated in PoJK are neither established by the Indian government nor recognized by statutory authorities including UGC, AICTE and Medical Council of India," Rajnish Jain, secretary of the UGC has said in an advisory.

"The students are therefore cautioned and advised against taking admission in college, university or technical institution in any territory under illegal occupation of Pakistan," Jain added.

Meanwhile, a private school association in Kashmir expressed their concern over the directives arguing that education should not be politicized and students should be allowed to take admission anywhere.
