Modelling is the process of representing a real life system, which is similar or close to an actual system and it includes its construction, properties, constraint and working. Simulation of a real life system is the operation of a model in terms of time or space under various working conditions. It helps in understanding the performance of a real life system. In other words,simulation is the process of using a model to study the performance of a real life system. Finite Element Method (FEM) is a numerical method seeking an approximated solution of the distribution of field variables in the problem domain that is difficult to obtain analytically. In present day Engineering World, FEM is used as a tool to understand the behavior of real life systems and has become accepted procedure in many industry sectors. Therefore, in order to derive maximum benefit from the available technology, knowledge of Modelling, Simulation and FEM is very essential for Engineering Faculties and Researchers to understand, design and develop any systems to fulfil the need of Society for better growth. At the same time, recommendations on how to avoid the inevitable pitfalls are invaluable.

NAFEMS, the only independent Not-for-Profit organisation with the aim of promoting the effective and reliable use of FEM, addresses this requirement by providing this two day workshop on “Introduction on Modelling, Simulation and FEM”. This workshop offers excellent guidance on how to judge which approximations are acceptable and appropriate for solving a wide range of practical problems. Of equal importance is the manner in which the results are interpreted. Advice is provided which allows the correct decisions to be taken, based on results which are known to be reliable. Interaction is encouraged throughout the course. The course is completely code independent. Overall, this programme is designed to introduce and encourage Faculties and Engineers in the use of Modelling, Simulation and FEM.
